Colourful Christmas Tree Ideas

Looking for a different colour scheme than the traditional green, red and gold tree? Try using one of these colourful tree & ornament combinations for your home this year! Here are a few of our favourites .....

White and Aqua

Pink Christmas Trees
The shades of pink and the ornament colour combinations are so fun! Purples, golds, whites, pink and red make this tree a statement piece!

Gold Trees
This is the reverse of the traditional tree! Instead of using a green tree with red and gold… do a gold tree with red and green ornaments!

Purple Christmas Trees
Gold, white and silver ornaments make this colour tree stunning!
Cobalt Blue
This is probably one of my favourites. This tree will look so good with white, silver and aqua ornaments. Talk about bold! This tree is the opposite of traditional Christmas, while still being incredibly festive!

Contemporary Christmas

It's the most wonderful time of the year.....I love the Christmas holidays - food, family, friends and the decorations!  It's such a festive time of year but some might argue that it is a challenge to make Christmas cool and contemporary.  Here are some ideas to add style to the season.

1.  Mix a metallic tone with an unusual colour for the holidays.  Like silver and a bold cobalt blue with white. Or look at lots of bright colours against a stark white background like a white tree

2.  Look at simple and/or unusual shapes for a modern tree like this fabulous gold one no ornaments required, modernism is also quite simple.

3. Instead of colour try one tone like White, all white so fresh and light but still winter-y. If you want this modern Christmas look play with texture like a white feather tree with glass and ceramic ornaments

4. It's all about how you present it.  Yes, you can keep the traditional colours without looking traditional.  Try hanging the ornaments in a colour coded pattern on the tree.  I also love how they added some pops of red with everyday items like the tray table, cubes and pillows - it is festive but not cheesy.

5.  Go girly!  Having a single ladies Christmas? Celebrate it!  With a pink tree and pink decor - it's fun and feminine.

6.  Go grey!  Mix up shades of greys with silver, charcoal, dove and more and for a it of pop add a splash of lime.  This is a great colour palette for a male household.

7. Think different.  Modern decor is about taking the usual and making it simple but still different.  Try hanging a series of wreaths above a sofa or like this image hang the stockings over a streamlined fireplace with a birch branch  'mantle'.  and have some pop art inspiration with a winter theme like an over sized snow flake.

Deck the Halls with lots of Style

So Halloween is ow over and already I'm seeing all sorts of Christmas/
Holiday decor up in stores.  Personally, I wait until mid to late November to start with my Christmas decorations but in my opinion it's not too early to start thinking of a theme.

Christmas decor used to be very traditional and classic but now there are so many looks and styles to choose from and the selection of colours is endless.

So what are you thinking for your holiday decor this year?

In my home, we are pretty classic and family friendly with 'country' influenced outdoor planters made of natural materials and inside we have lots of family friendly decorations.  The kids love it and it really suits the style of my home.

But if you are a condo dweller - do you have to go traditional? No.  Christmas decor can be modern and contemporary. Think about  mixing metallics or sticking with one shade of metallic

or going with fuchsia pink or lime green instead of traditional red and green.

If you want a contemporary Christmas look for a tree that has a modern look and/or a non-traditional colour.

Display ornaments (one shape, colour or style is best) in clear glass vases as a centre piece or on the coffee table.  You can also find classic ornaments like Nutcrackers with a modern modern feel.

Christmas decor can be stylish and chic.  If you want a contemporary look to your Christmas theme this year - think about the basics of contemporary design : clean, simple, clutter free, repetition, bold or soft colour palettes, and add an element of surprise or whimsy.

Have a beautiful and stylish Holiday season in your home this year!
