Celebrity style - Leonardo DiCaprio Palm Springs

You may never appear in a Leonardo DiCaprio period film, but for a price, you can rent his Mad Men-era compound in Palm Springs for $4,500 a night, as first reported by Curbed L.A. DiCaprio has been kicking back on the 1.3-acre estate since buying it last year for $5.2 million, but wants to lease it out by the night while filming The Revenant, his first big job since 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
 


The 7,022-square-foot main house was built in 1965 for Dinah Shore and is more expansive than most midcentury modern homes, with 6 bedrooms, 7.5 baths and multiple fireplaces. The grounds feature a guest house, pool and tennis court.

 
 


 Much of architect Donald Wexler’s original work has been restored. Mid-century modern restorations are all the rage in Palm Springs, where one developer is even reviving Joseph Eichler homes using archived plans from the iconic builder, who died in 1974.

Celebrity Style At Home: Stacy London

Within moments of stepping into Stacy London's Brooklyn apartment, we felt completely at ease. It was airy, fluid, and filled with objects that seemed carefully considered, not staged by a decorator. It's common wisdom that a space's energy reveals much about its owner, and in this case, it couldn't be more true. We were totally smitten with London's easygoing nature — "Feel free to move anything around!" — and the way she talks about her home not just as a crash pad, but as a memory-filled sanctuary she's created in the 10 years she's lived there.

Fresh after the premiere of her new show Love, Lust or Run (where she makes over women with extreme style), she was ready to spend some time in repose in her sacred space. She kindly chatted with us about style transformation, trying new things (swimming!), and her intense obsession with Etsy.

And, when her darling 18-year-old feline, Al, threw up on the couch, we watched with admiration as she handled it with the greatest aplomb. Three and a half hours later, we had enough transcripts and photos to write our biography. But, we didn't want to leave. Not so secretly, we're hoping to get invited back for one of her famed Game of Thrones viewing parties. She makes a mean muddled gin cocktail.
 You've been in this space for 10 years now. What is your relationship like with it?
"The big thing about this renovation is how much I’ve changed. I wanted everything to be shiny and sparkly in the beginning, and I was thinking all sorts of details and trim on the walls... But, I've changed so much since I was on What Not to Wear and left and started all these other projects. I feel so much softer. My house didn’t reflect that; it didn’t feel homey — it felt kind of like a museum.

"Recently, a lot of [making it different] was just moving things that I already owned around to different places. The leopard ottomans that are now in the dressing room were upstairs. I had a huge orange rug that had a giant pink flower on it. If you Google, you can see the old apartment, and you’ll be like, what happened?"






 London arranged her art-gallery style within cubbyholes, making her TV fit in seamlessly and unnoticed.

Tell us about your dinosaur and dragon collection.
"I love inserting humor into a space. I can’t stand when you go into someone’s house and it feels like a mausoleum. If you don’t have tchotchkes, I don’t trust you."



 Your space has a such a mix of pieces from different eras that it's hard to put a finger on it.
"I don’t like one style only. It’s weird if you’re going to do Italian modern with French country — that’s a little tough to pull off sometimes. But, what I have here is the result of being in this space for 10 years. It was my first apartment buy, and I had no idea what I was doing. It’s taken 10 years of moving through this space to understand what I wanted it to feel like. That’s why I have such huge respect for architects and interior designers. The way you understand space is key. I haven’t completely figured it out, but I'm getting there."

The women on your new show have pretty extreme dressing choices, and a lot of it stems from self-image issues. What was it like working on such deep issues?
"I wanted to let them take me to some place... I think it took one season to figure what works. For example, Tanika is a pool shooter, so I had her take me to shoot pool because I suck at it. And, it wasn’t in the episode, but you see how she’s empowered [that] I’m thrown off. So, a couple of the episodes later, you have me doing things where I'm making a total fool of myself."

"When I bought these in 1999, everyone was like, what the f*** are you doing? Back to the future. I don’t even think Diesel would think of making them now, it’s funny."

An apartment is never done. Stacy is in the process of having these chairs reupholstered. Farrow & Ball paint and her own framed target-practice sheets make a subtle vignette.

 We're in love with the strong reflection on this piece, as well as the black-and-white pairings.

 In the bedroom, there's a mix of modern (the word art Stacy made herself) and vintage (the bust with jewels).

Celebrity Style: Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet

The architecture and design in California has a specific character to it that I’ve always loved. The Spanish influence has always been very strong, even to this day. It is part of what makes the California style so charming. The home of Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet in Los Angeles definitely captures all of that charm and then some. It puts a masculine spin on it, taking queues from Mexican art and design to create a space that is sophisticated, but comfortable.

The living room is a place for gathering and relaxing with a warm palette and comfortable furniture. Even the dog looks comfortable!

The design of the fireplace mantel is unique and brings a masculine touch to the space. The lanterns add some style and extra ambiance. Greenery always adds life to any space, just look for plants that complement your design and style....

Each room has it's own identity yet they still flow beautifully into one another.  The dining room has a beautiful over sized lantern light fixture which gives the space a timeless yet casual look and the neutral wallpaper adds sophistication without  being stuffy.  In this space the dark stained wood beams add character and texture plus they make the high ceilings more warm and intimate.  The mounted deer head adds a rustic touch but in white it adds a bit of modernity....





I love a vignette and this one is not exception.  The combination of warm wood tones, the pattern in both the tile and the fabrics and the colour choice just make this a cozy corner and compliment the entire look and feel of the home



This master bedroom is a beautiful balance of hard and soft materials.  The bedside table and the upholstered headboard are a perfect compliment to one another.  The colour palette, textures and patterns make this a bedroom that's just so soothing and relaxing to come home to.  The art and mirror gallery arrangement is also very unique but very comfortable



This guest bedroom is again just beautiful!  The colour palette is classic and warm, perfect for guests!  The bold stripe headboard would be too much in many cases but this colour combination and neutral wall make it work.  The roman shade, the art and the bench seating add visual impact to the space without being over whelming...


You can decorate an entire home with neutrals but in order to keep it visually interesting play with textures, layers and mix all neutrals together

Celebrity style: Jennifer Lawrence

Hollywood superstar Jennifer Lawrence has a swanky new address in Beverly Hills. The actor who stars in The Hunger Games films and American Hustle purchased a 5,500-square-foot abode nestled in the twisty streets of the Hollywood Hills. In fact, this Hamptons-style home has been owned by other Hollywood household names in the past, including Jessica Simpson, and before that, Ellen Degeneres among other stars.

When Lawrence recently purchased this home in fall 2014, the Internet was abuzz with suggestions that her then-boyfriend, the musician and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin (the couple has since reportedly broken up) was influential in her choice of a cozy, romantic house. The interior, reportedly designed by Rachel Ashwell, the designer famous for creating shabby-chic, is rumoured to have an ample kitchen and a beachy low-key vibe intended for the new couple to cocoon with home-cooked dinners and good wine. But we’d like to think Lawrence, who is revered for her down-to-earth attitude, simply chose it because the house, while sprawling, still has a comfortable and lived-in vibe – by ostentatious Los Angeles standards anyway.



This five-bedroom house cost Lawrence over $8 million, and for that hefty chunk of change, she is now the mistress of a swimming pool, a koi pond, extensively lush landscaped gardens, the requisite media/screening room, and a gourmet kitchen suitable for big family get-togethers and entertaining a crowd among other luxe features. It’s a romantic home, a sentiment echoed even by the real estate listing agent, Sotheby’s. “Ebonised hardwood floors and fabulous crown and base mouldings throughout are just some of the quality details in this romantically emotional home,” was the reported wording of the agency’s listing. Celebrity Style : At Home in Charleston with Darius Rucker

This newly built home in Charleston, SC belongs to former Hootie and the Blowfish front man and more recent country artist, Darius Rucker and his wife Beth and their 3 children.  They worked closely with interior designer Angie Hranowsky  

The home is finished with a mix of colour, texture,vintage, modern, eclectic pieces and comfort.  The overall look may surprise you but the family was very involved in the entire process so that the entire home would truly reflect their taste, style and suit their needs.

This entry is clean and classic yet the rock table is totally unexpected. 



This is the family's year round residence so they wanted a home that was functional but also inviting.  The overall idea of the decor was a white backdrop throughout so their art and colourful pieces would stand out and make a statement. This Buddha art piece  is one of the couple's favourites, it is made out of bottle caps by a local artist, Molly B. Right

.




 The family loves to read so incorporating books and bookcases into the design was very important.  In many of the rooms, the presence of books is very evident and that was intentional.



The couple loves art and this piece is no exception!  This piece was commissioned especially for this spot in the living room by artist, Sally King Benedict.

In the past, the couple opted for black and white and neutrals but while working with Hranowsky, they asked her to push them into a new palette. 

Since the couple love to entertain and they both come from large families, a large dining table was very important to them.



The Master Bedroom carries out the colourful theme, playful mix of patterns, light walls and showcases another stunning commissioned art piece (mounted above the bed) by artist, Kate Long Stevenson. the modern brass chandelier also offers another element of artful drama.





The children's bedrooms also  flow beautifully with the overall theme and concept.



 Given that this is the family's primary residence and they have children, Hranowsky was careful to make the design was durable and able withstand a beating. “We spent a lot of time picking out fabrics that would hide dirt, but didn't compromise the design,” the designer says. “We were very thoughtful about how every piece would function in the house.”

 

 The outdoor living space is another extension of the home and incorporates all of the family's loves in home decor - colour, texture, pattern and comfort!
