We Answer Wednesday - Front Porch Facelift

“Spring is finally here and I’m noticing how bland my front door area is… I want to add some colour but I’m just not sure where..”

Spring is here! After many, many months of winter weather and very little colour, if you’re like us – you’re ready to bring your exterior back to life again!
The front entrance to your home is the first place most people see, and that’s where your personality and décor should begin! Every passerby notices the house with the beautiful front porch, or beautiful garden, or gorgeous exterior colours… so be that house!

Sprucing up your front porch for spring is a welcome task for many reasons! It will look great to friends and family visiting, but most importantly, you’ll feel good. Coming home after a day of work or being busy will be so refreshing if you love what you’re walking up to. Here are some great ideas of how to give your front porch that facelift it deserves!

Paint
Depending how much “work” you want to do, painting your front door is a great facelift! Depending what kind of shape the paint is in, it may be time anyway! Paint is magical, you’ll be shocked at what a difference a coat of paint can make to your home, both inside & out.

Front door color... love luv luhhhv

A New Furniture Piece
There are so many great colourful pieces of furniture for your home. Depending on how large your outdoor space is, try adding a great colored Adirondack chair that compliments your exterior colour palette. Add an interesting outdoor table in a contrasting colour such as a garden stool for a great update!
Another option is to add a bistro set.. many places sell beautiful colors of small table and chair sets that look fantastic at the front door. Or if colour isn’t your thing, buy neutrals and add colour in some accessories.
If you have old or tired looking furniture that's in decent shape and you are on a budget - spray paint can really work miracles.
If your front porch is on the larger side, adding a bench or a conversation area is a fantastic option. and don't forget, for a little softness and splash of colour - try a pillow in an outdoor fabric!

Great porch...perfect for black and white house - mine would have to go with green door :( suggestions . . .

Flowers and Planters
Who doesn’t love colourful plants? Having greenery really makes a space come alive. A variety of flowers and colours will make your exterior cheerful. Add interesting pots and planters to elevate the colour scheme. There are so many textures, colors and patterns.. the sky is literally the limit! Also for a little extra, how about adding some lanterns with outdoor flameless candles - this is perfect if you love to sit with a cup of tea or glass of wine in the evening.

Wreath
A spring wreath on the front door is a beautiful accessory to add.. Especially if your front porch isn’t large and doesn’t offer a lot of extra space for plants on the ground/deck area. Be sure to look for what that looks relatively real too.

Having an attractive front door sets the stage for the rest of the home. These are easy to make. Make sure your front door is painted and clean.

Door Mat/ Outdoor Rug
Again, the sky is the limit here! So many colours, textures and patterns to choose from, as well as phrases! I love a whimsical rug at the front door, and depending on your personality, having a funny saying is a great “welcome” for your guests. This is your home – so let your personality shine through!

This is My DREAM Exterior!!! I want this for our house: Clean Grey (can maybe even go a tiny smidge darker?) siding with Bright White trim, the flower boxes, the white porch decking, the RUG, the lights, the address numbers and of course, the ORANGE DOOR!!!! Door Details
Another element of your front porch that can use some sprucing up, mainly because it is always exposed to the elements are your exterior lights, mailbox, address plate and grip set.  those are easy updates - sometime a coat of spray paint is all it needs or try updating those small details all together.  It can really update that front porch and a create a welcoming entry
